about

Description of Artwork or Music: I wrote this piece as an homage to the sounds that inspired me to pursue Game Music and Sound Design. Akira Yamaoka was one of my earliest influences, and I will never forget what the soundtracks have inspired me to do and become.

Inspiration for Artwork or Music: I tend to fall in love with Yamaoka's use of breakbeats against beautiful melodies, which is what I tried to emulate here. My good friend Chelsea (pixelatedcowboy.tumblr.com) also did the beautiful artwork for the track. She ended up creating a cover that reflects the lonely nature of the song, and it works really well.

Creative Process: I initially wrote out several different pieces on guitar, hoping to transfer them over to the piano part, but as I sat down to work, this happened to come out. I was working with a couple of new synth patches for a different project, and I came across the one you hear against the piano, which I thought ended up fitting extremely well as an eerie juxtaposition between the fluid piano and straight beats.
